MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES, NEWS, EDUCATION & ACTION
This website was set up by the family of Nicky Stevens, who died while under the 'care' of the Waikato (NZ) District Health Board's Henry Bennett Centre in March 2015.
Nicky's whanau was ignored, dismissed and abused by the Waikato DHB when they tried to ensure he was kept safe.
The website is dedicated to seeking truth and justice for Nicky, and for other victims of a broken mental health system - there are many, many other similar stories from every corner of the country.
It will hold information about Nicky's case (see chart of enquiries into Nicky's death) , and his family's fight, and about all other cases of people in New Zealand who have been failed by the broken mental health system.
Families Matter will do its best to support and encourage other families in their fight on behalf of their loved ones, and will constantly draw to the attention of Government's and other authorities the absolute need for families to be involved in treatment and support for mental health 'patients'.
The website will campaign for improvements in New Zealand's mental health system, and for an end to the marginalisation and mis-treatment of mental health 'patients' and their families.
